Fall Playoff Scenarios

We're down to the final day of the regular season and the five-team playoff fields in field hockey, soccer and volleyball are still not complete. That means a tremendous day of action on Saturday around the Conference as teams vie for those coveted spots in next week's championship tournaments.

What follows below are the scenarios for the four sports ... what it will take to be the top seed ... what it will take to nail down a berth. For the most up-to-date information from the weekend, you can now get Centennial Conference championship results instantly sent to your cell via Twitter. Register with Twitter ... send the message "follow CCplayoffs" to 40404 ... and you'll receive scores from the championship events. Don't want that many text messages on your phone ... get them off the web just as quickly at Twitter.com.

The start times and order of semifinal games will be determined via conference calls with the participating teams on Monday, November 3 and will be posted no later than noon EST on Monday at www.centennial.org.

Field Hockey
four of the five games come into play as we determine the five seeds for the tournament.
#1 seed - winner of Ursinus at Johns Hopkins
#2 seed - loser of Ursinus at Johns Hopkins
#3 seed - Gettysburg

#4 seed
a) Dickinson, if it wins at Washington
b) Haverford, if it wins vs. McDaniel and Washington defeats Dickinson
c) Washington, if it defeats Dickinson and McDaniel defeats Haverford

#5 seed if Dickinson is #4
a) Haverford with a win vs. McDaniel or a 1-goal loss (goal differential)
b) McDaniel with a win by 2 goals (goal differential)

#5 seed if Haverford is #4
a) Washington

#5 seed if Washington is #4
a) Dickinson

Women's Soccer
all five games matter on the regular season's final day.
#1 seed - Johns Hopkins
#2 seed
a) Dickinson with a win at Washington; or a tie vs. Washington and a Swarthmore loss
b) Swarthmore with a win at F&M and a Dickinson loss at Washington; or a tie vs. F&M and losses by Dickinson and Muhlenberg
c) Muhlenberg with a win at Gettysburg and losses by Dickinson and Swarthmore

How does your team get in?
Gettysburg - win vs. Muhlenberg and losses by Ursinus and F&M
Haverford - win vs. McDaniel and losses by F&M, Gettysburg and a loss or tie by Ursinus
Franklin & Marshall - win vs. Swarthmore and a loss by Ursinus (the tiebreaker with Muhlenberg is dependent on seeds)
Ursinus - win vs. Johns Hopkins or losses by F&M, Gettysburg and Haverford
Muhlenberg - win or tie vs. Gettysburg or losses by F&M and Ursinus

Men's Soccer
four of the five matches factor into determining the five teams and their seeds.
#1 seed - Swarthmore

#2 seed
a) Johns Hopkins with a win vs. Washington; or losses by Dickinson and Gettysburg; or a tie by Dickinson
b) Dickinson with a win vs. F&M and a loss by Johns Hopkins
c) Gettysburg with a win vs. McDaniel, a loss by Johns Hopkins and a loss or tie by Dickinson

How Does Your Team Get In?
Franklin & Marshall - win vs. Dickinson and a loss by either Gettysburg or Muhlenberg; or a tie and a Muhlenberg loss
Muhlenberg - a win or an F&M loss; or a tie and a Gettysburg loss
Gettysburg - a win or a loss by either F&M or Muhlenberg

Volleyball
once again, all five matches will determine the fate of the five playoff teams and their seeds.

a) Gettysburg with a victory or a Haverford loss
b) Haverford with a victory and a Gettysburg loss

#2 seed
a) Haverford with a Gettysburg win
b) Gettysburg with a loss by Johns Hopkins
c) Johns Hopkins with a win and a Gettysburg loss

#3 seed
a) Gettysburg with a loss and wins by Haverford and Johns Hopkins
b) Johns Hopkins

#4 seed - Franklin & Marshall

#5 seed
a) Dickinson with a win or losses by McDaniel and Muhlenberg
b) Muhlenberg with a win and a Dickinson loss
c) McDaniel with a win and losses by Dickinson and Muhlenberg

For women's soccer, Haverford gets in with a win vs McDaniel and either losses or ties by F&M, Gettysburg, and Ursinus. That is, F&M and Gettysburg don't necessarily have to lose, as long as they don't win.

Ursinus vs Hopkins FH -- Ursinus is up by 5 with a few minutes left. Wow what happened to hopkins? Congratulations Ursinus!
