Top 20 Battles Highlight Wednesday Slate

It is not your usual non-conference Wednesday in September, as a number of top 20 battles involving Centennial teams take place today. A pair of top 10 field hockey teams - #9 Rowan and #7 Ursinus - square off at Eleanor Frost Snell Alumnae Field in Collegeville. The Bears went 5-3 against ranked opponents last season and are 18-12 against non-CC teams in the top 20 since 2002. The soccer pitches have four matches involving ranked teams. On the men's side, #3 Messiah comes calling to the Battlefield to take on Gettysburg, while Johns Hopkins comes north across the Mason-Dixon line to take on #4 York. The Bullets' last win against a non-Centennial ranked opponent was a 2-1 triumph against #24 St. Mary's in 2004., while the Blue Jays have gone 0-5-1 against non-CC ranked teams since defeating #6 Montclair, 1-0 in 2002. #23 Swarthmore - the highest ranking in program history - is also on the road at Eastern. On the women's side, #15 Johns Hopkins welcomes #2 Messiah to Homewood Field. The Blue Jays are 2-8-3 against non-CC ranked foes since 2002 with those victories coming against #5 Oneonta in 2005 and 2006. Finally, on the volleyball court, #19 Haverford is on the road at Elizabethtown.
