Volleyball Notebook


Dickinson, Franklin & Marshall and Swarthmore all recorded Conference victories on Tuesday ... the Red Devils took a 3-1 decision from visiting Muhlenberg ... Ashley Young (Hume, VA / Fauquier) had 18 kills, three blocks and four service aces for Dickinson, while Elitsa Gosheva (Sofia, Bulgaria) added 17 kills ... the Diplomats made it 15 straight wins against Bryn Mawr with a 3-0 sweep at home ... Maritza Fair (Bronx, NY / The Nightingale, Bamford School) had 10 kills for F&M ... Swarthmore's Erica George (Phoenix, AZ / Mountain Pointe) became the first Garnet player to amass 1,000 kills in a career in the sweep of Washington ... George had a match-high 17 kills to boost her career total to 1,012 ... head coach Harleigh Leach won her 50th career match, as Swarthmore improved to 9-3 - the best 12-game start in school history ... Haverford received votes once again for the AVCA top 25 after winning the Lebanon Valley Dutchman Invitational ... Emily Hinchcliff (Ithaca, NY / Ithaca), and sisters Rachel and Rebecca Salvo (La Canada, CA / Flintridge Sacred Heart) were named to the All-Tournament team ... the Fords are 13-1 and off to their best start since the 2000 club began the year 14-1 ... Gettysburg also won a weekend tournament, sweeping four matches to take home the Centre Invitational trophy ... keeping up with the Joneses, Johns Hopkins captured the Maryland State Division III tournament ... Kim Jackanich (Pacifica, CA / St. Ignatius College Prep) was named the tourney MVP ... two key Conference matches are on tap this weekend, as Franklin & Marshall visits Haverford on Friday, and Swarthmore travels to McDaniel on Saturday ... the Diplomats and Fords have split their last two CC matches which both went five games ... the Garnet's win at home against the Green Terror last season clinched Swarthmore's first-ever playoff berth ... Swarthmore has never defeated McDaniel in Westminster.
