Cross Country Notebook


The Gettysburg women placed five runners in the top 10 and cruised to a 40-point win at the Shippensburg Alumni Meet last Saturday. First-years Kerrin Epstein (Moravia, NY / Moravia) and Sarah Fritz (Ledyard, CT / Ledyard) led the way, finishing fourth and fifth, respectively ... the Johns Hopkins men placed seven runners in the top 10 on their way to capturing the Baltimore Metro Invitational for the second straight year. Patrick Brandon (Massapequa, NY / Massapequa) (pictured) claimed the individual title in 27:42.89 ... Laura Paulsen (Lutherville, MD / Bryn Mawr) finished first on the women's side, leading JHU to a second-place finish ... despite rainy conditions, Muhlenberg had 14 of its 18 runners run faster than they did in 2005 at the Lehigh Valley Championships, including four who bettered their time by more than two minutes ... the Swarthmore men opened their season with a 15-45 win over Chestnut Hill, taking the top five positions. Jon Shoop (Reno, NV / Incline) was first with a time of 18:44 ... the Ursinus men were 2nd and the women 4th at the Delaware Valley Invitational. Pat O'Neill (Ardsley, PA / La Salle) led the men with a third-place finish in 28:31.18 ... Katie Weng (Paramus, NJ / Saddle River) picked up where she left off after a stellar rookie season, finishing third overall and first among D-III runners at the Haverford Time Trials. The Fords' Annick Lamar (Hamilton, NJ / Hamilton North) took fourth at the same event ... Darcy McDonald (Lititz, PA / Warwick) captured the individual title at the Capital Area Classic in 19:41 ... Franklin & Marshall's Karen Ziga (Haverford, PA / Haverford) finished second at the Salisbury Invitational in 22:36.
