It's "Opening Night" for the Centennial Conference basketball tournaments with games in Gettysburg and Collegeville. Follow all the action by following the links below.

Muhlenberg at Gettysburg (Men's Basketball)

The teams played a pair of overtime games during the regular season with the Mules winning at Bream Gym (67-64) and the Bullets winning at Memorial Hall (71-64). Gettysburg is 2-0 vs. Muhlenberg in the CC post-season, winning the 2001 title (68-59) and the 2002 semifinal (68-59) - both in Allentown. Sunday Swim Finals

First, the good news. Our technical difficulties have been corrected and it looks as if we are good to go with LIVE VIDEO tonight. The not-so-good news is that your video stream may be affected by the number of viewers that we have tonight ... so while we appreciate your comments about the video quality, there may not be much we can do.

Thanks for your patience last night ... and due to your comments, we will provide two separate blogs for tonight's events - one for the results and another for your comments. Please just keep it clean and positive!

It's the final weekend of regular-season play in men's and women's basketball and playoff spots are still up for grabs.

Gettysburg at Dickinson (Men's Basketball)
The Bullets (11-12, 9-8 CC) are the hottest team in the Conference - winners of nine of their last 12 games - and can wrap up a playoff berth with a victory over the Red Devils (7-16, 5-12). Gettysburg has won five straight in the series to take a 107-66-1 all-time advantage.

McDaniel at Washington (Men's Basketball)
The Green Terror (11-13, 8-9) cannot lock up a spot with a victory over the Shoremen (3-20, 2-15), but cannot get into the playoffs without a victory. McDaniel has won three of the last four from Washington since ending a 14-game losing streak to the Shoremen last season.

Muhlenberg at Ursinus (Men's Basketball)
The Mules (9-14, 8-9) are almost in the same situation as McDaniel - cannot secure a berth with a win but go to the brink of elimination with a loss. The Bears (16-8, 13-4) are the No. 2 seed for the tournament. Ursinus has won six straight from Muhlenberg at Helfferich Hall since a 63-60 Mule triumph in 2000.

Swarthmore at Haverford (Men's Basketball)
As if this rivalry needs more fuel ... the Garnet (11-13, 8-9) needs to beat the Fords (12-11, 11-6) and get some help to qualify for the playoffs for the first time since 1997. Haverford is in the tournament as the No. 3 seed, but would love to knock their arch-rivals out of the playoffs. Swarthmore has won three straight from the Fords for the first time since 1996-97 to take a 90-61 series advantage.

Muhlenberg at Ursinus (Women's Basketball)
The Bears (15-9, 11-6) need a win over the third-seeded Mules (19-5, 12-5) to secure a playoff berth. Muhlenberg has won the last three meetings against Ursinus by a combined total of 12 points.

Gettysburg at Dickinson (Women's Basketball)
It looks like the Bullets (15-9, 12-5) are securely in the field, but need a win to finish as the third or fourth seed. The Red Devils (20-4, 14-3) have the No. 2 seed for the tournament. Gettysburg can get its first season sweep of Dickinson since 2004 with a triumph.

Johns Hopkins at Franklin & Marshall (Women's Basketball)
The Blue Jays (13-9, 11-6) need a win over the Diplomats (6-17, 5-11), combined with an Ursinus loss, to keep their tournament hopes alive. A Hopkins win will even the all-time series at 27-27.

"Must-Win" Night

Franklin & Marshall at McDaniel (Men's Basketball)
There will be a playoff atmosphere at Gill Gym tonight when the Diplomats (8-15, 7-9) and the Green Terror (10-13, 7-9) play in what may amount to an elimination game. The winner keeps its playoff chances alive, while the loser goes to the brink of elimination. F&M has won 18 straight games in the series since a 74-68 loss in Westminster in 1998.

Washington at Swarthmore (Men's Basketball)
The Garnet (10-13, 7-9) welcomes the Shoremen (3-19, 2-14) to Tarble Pavilion for Senior Night. Swarthmore is one of four teams tied for the fifth and final playoff berth in the Conference and cannot afford a loss. The two teams have split the last four contests with no game being decided by more than five points.

Dickinson at Muhlenberg (Men's Basketball)
The Mules (8-14, 7-9) take on the Red Devils (7-15, 5-11) in a game that has playoff implications for 'Berg. Muhlenberg needs a victory to keep its playoff hopes alive as the Cardinal and Grey is in a four-way tie for the fifth and final playoff berth in the Centennial. The Mules have won three straight from Dickinson at Memorial Hall, but the Devils tied the all-time series at 36-36 with a 69-50 win in January.

White Outside, Hot Inside, Part Deux

The winter weather has condensed the evening's schedule to two games in Baltimore and Haverford. Both contests have playoff implications, as Johns Hopkins can clinch the top seed for the Centennial tournament with a victory over Gettysburg, while the Bullets can move a step closer to securing a playoff berth with a victory. Ursinus needs a victory at Haverford to keep its hopes of garnering the top seed alive. The Fords could see the Bears as a semifinal opponent next weekend and will want to make a statement to the Collegeville quintet. You can watch the action from Gooding Arena at this link.

White Outside, Hot Inside

It may be white on the outside, but it's hot in the gym tonight as the Centennial Conference basketball season heads toward tournament time. Every men's game on the schedule has playoff implications, while #21 McDaniel can clinch the top seed for the women's tournament with a win versus Franklin & Marshall.

Franklin & Marshall at McDaniel (Men's Basketball)
The Diplomats (8-15, 7-9 CC) and the Green Terror (10-13, 7-9) meet at the Gill Center in what amounts to a playoff game. The winner keeps its CC tournament hopes alive, while the loser goes to the brink of elimination. F&M won the first meeting of the year by an 82-70 count on Jan. 24 to extend its winning streak against McDaniel to 18 games. The Terror's last win was a 74-68 triumph in Westminster in 1998.

Key Games on a Wintry Night

Dickinson at Muhlenberg (Women's Basketball)
The Red Devils (19-4, 13-3 CC) and the Mules (19-4, 12-4) square off at Memorial Hall in a possble playoff preview. Dickinson won the first meeting of the year in Carlisle by a 49-34 count but only has one win in Allentown since 1994 (2005). Two of the CC's top centers meet in the Devils' Ally Teatom and the Mules' Meghan Courtney.

Gettysburg at Johns Hopkins (Women's Basketball)
The Bullets (13-8, 11-5) and the Blue Jays (14-9, 11-5) are tied for fourth place in the Conference and the winner will have a leg up on one of the remaining two playoff spots. Gettysburg has not won in Baltimore since 1987, dropping 12 straight at Goldfarb Gym since the inception of the CC in 1994.

Hoops Galore

Muhlenberg at McDaniel (Women's Basketball)
The Green Terror (19-2, 13-1 CC) can take a major step toward securing home court for the Centennial final four when it welcomes the Mules (19-3, 12-3) to the Gill Center. McDaniel defeated Muhlenberg, 70-45, back on Jan. 11 in the first meeting of the year to increase its series advantage to 13-11. The Mules are 4-4 in Westminster since 1994.

Ursinus at Johns Hopkins (Women's Basketball)
The Bears (14-8, 10-5), Blue Jays (12-8, 10-5) and Gettysburg (13-9, 10-5) are tied for fourth place in the Conference ... and only two of these teams will make the five-team tournament field. Ursinus defeated Hopkins,, 56-52, on Jan. 11 in Collegeville, but the Blue Jays have won 11 straight from the Bears at Goldfarb dating to a 74-70 UC win in 1995.

Ursinus at Johns Hopkins (Men's Basketball)
It will be quite a twinbill at Goldfarb as the Bear men (16-6, 13-2) and the Blue Jay men (19-3, 13-2) meet with first place on the line. Both of Hopkins' CC losses have come in the game before it meets Ursinus (Haverford, McDaniel). JHU won the first meeting between the teams by a 66-50 count in Collegeville on Jan. 11, breaking a four-game losing streak in the series.

Swarthmore at Gettysburg (Men's Basketball)
There are six teams still in the hunt for the Conference's three remaining playoff spots and the Garnet (10-12, 7-8) and Bullets (9-12, 7-8) are among them. Gettysburg won the first meeting of the year on Jan. 11 by a 52-49 count for its sixth straight victory in the series. Swarthmore's last triumph was a 68-62 decision over the Bullets at Bream Gym in 2004.

Big Night at Ware Pool

Washington at Swarthmore (Swimming)
The Garnet men and women have the opportunity to finish off outstanding dual-meet seasons with Centennial championships. The Swarthmore men (6-2, 5-0 CC) have already clinched at least a share of the dual-meet title with Franklin & Marshall (their first since 1997) but can capture the crown outright with a victory over the Shoremen (7-3, 3-2). It would be the Garnet's first outright dual championship since the inception of the CC in 1994. The Swarthmore women (6-3, 5-1) can get a share of their first-ever Centennial dual-meet title (with Franklin & Marshall and Gettysburg) with a victory over the Shorewomen (9-3, 3-3).

Gettysburg at Ursinus (Men's Basketball)
The Bullets (9-11, 7-7 CC) are tied with Swarthmore for fourth place in the Conference, a game behind third-place Haverford and a game in front of McDaniel and Franklin & Marshall. Only three of those five teams will make the Centennial tournament. The Bears (15-6, 12-2) are a game behind Johns Hopkins in the chase for the top seed for the tourney and cannot be caught looking ahead to Saturday's showdown with the Blue Jays. Ursinus won the first meeting of the year by a 65-60 count in Gettysburg to make it five straight wins over the Bullets.

Nancy and Becky and Mike and Jim

It's a huge night for women's basketball action in the Centennial Conference with two critical games. First-place McDaniel (18-2, 12-1 CC) takes its No. 24 national ranking into Goldfarb Gym to take on Johns Hopkins (12-7, 10-4). The Blue Jays handed the Green Terror its only CC loss of the season back on Dec. 6 in Westminster by a 66-60 count. Hopkins' Nancy Funk, the winningest coach in Centennial history, goes for her 500th career coaching win (499-252, 373-163 at JHU) tonight against the second-winningest coach - McDaniel's Becky Martin (383-244). The Blue Jays' last win over a ranked team came in 2004 against #20 McDaniel, 59-52. Gettysburg (13-8, 10-4) travels to Collegeville to take on Ursinus (13-8, 9-5) in a crucial game for both teams' playoff hopes. The Bullets can sweep the season series from the Bears and take a two-game lead (and the tie-breaker) over UC with three games to play with a victory. Two of the four male head coaches in the Conference - Gettysburg's Mike Kirkpatrick and Ursinus' Jim Buckley - meet tonight with Kirkpatrick holding a 6-3 advantage.

Super Saturday

Do we have a weekend of action for you! We'll start with big games around the Conference on the hardwood in Haverford and Collegeville ... we'll take you to the pool in Lancaster for a live look-in at a big swimming meet ... we'll head to the Commonwealth of Virginia for a critical Centennial wrestling match ... oh yeah, we'll cap it with Super Bowl XLI. Well, actually that's the NFL's thing, not ours.

Johns Hopkins at Haverford (Men's Basketball)
The 20th ranked Blue Jays (18-2, 12-1 CC) look to avenge their only Centennial loss of the season when they visit the Main Line to take on the Fords (9-10, 8-5). Haverford has won three of the last four meetings at home, but Hopkins got the best of the Fords last season at Gooding Arena, 89-69. You can catch the live video feed of this showdown, beginning at 4 p.m.

Dickinson at Ursinus (Women's Basketball)
The Red Devils (16-4, 10-3 CC) and the Bears (13-7, 9-4) meet in a critical contest that will have major playoff implications. Dickinson won the first meeting between the teams on Jan. 9 by a 66-55 count, as the Devils held Mary Kate Daley to just eight points on 4-of-12 shooting. Dickinson has won the last three meetings at Helfferich Hall and eight straight overall to take a 15-5 series advantage.

Ursinus at Washington and Lee (Wrestling)
The Bears look to extend their 27-match Centennial win streak when they visit Lexington to take on the Generals (5-3, 3-2) and McDaniel (3-6, 2-3). Two matches to watch are at 125 where Ursinus' Steve Kingsland (16-4) battles W&L's Sammy Brusca (13-7) and at 165 where the Bears' Mike Schwager (22-8) takes on W&L's Anthony Boniello (15-7).

Gettysburg at Franklin & Marshall (Men's and Women's Swimming)
The perennial Centennial powers meet at McGuiness Pool in Lancaster with dual-meet crowns on the line. The Diplomat men (4-5, 4-1 CC) can gain a share of the championship with a win and a Swarthmore (5-2, 4-0) loss against Dickinson. The Bullet women (7-1, 6-0 CC) can complete an undefeated CC dual-meet schedule with a victory, while F&M (7-2-1, 5-1) can gain a share of the crown with a triumph. You can watch the meet LIVE on the Centennial Conference Broadcast Network in experimental video as we prepare for the Centennial championships in two weeks.
