"Finals" Saturday

Major League Baseball has the "World Series." The NFL has its "Super Bowl." The NHL has its "Stanley Cup," and the NBA has "The Finals." Well, the Centennial Conference has its version of "The Finals," although they happen twice a year and don't just involve the top teams, they involve everyone. Yes, it's final examination time at our campuses and today is the final go-round before our students get down to the real business of college. The men have a full slate of five games, highlighted by a pair of 2-1 teams matching up in Lancaster as Haverford visits Franklin & Marshall. We'll be there bringing you live video coverage of the contest. On the women's side, there are three CC games, while two other teams head out-of-state. Johns Hopkins travels to Illinois to take on #25 Chicago, while Dickinson heads to Connecticut to meet Mitchell College at the Mohegan Sun resort. Tuesday Gamenight

It's the last full night of Centennial women's basketball action for 2006 with games in five different venues. The annual Route 140 tussle between Johns Hopkins and McDaniel takes center stage tonight, as the Blue Jays and the Green Terror meet for the 60th time. Elsewhere, Bryn Mawr is at Ursinus, Franklin & Marshall travels to Dickinson, Swarthmore visits Muhlenberg and Washington crosses the Mason-Dixon line to take on Haverford. In non-CC action, Gettysburg plays host to #13 Messiah. Get all the links for live audio and stats at our Gameday site or just get game updates here on our score blog.

Five-Star Weekend Matchups

McDaniel at Ursinus (Men's Basketball)
The Green Terror (4-2, 1-0) travels to Collegeville to take on the two-time defending CC champion Bears (2-0, 1-0) on their brand-new wood floor. Ursinus leads the all-time series, 21-13, and have won six straight against McDaniel at Hellferich Hall since an 85-73 Terror win in 1996.

Johns Hopkins at Muhlenberg (Women's Basketball)
It's one of the longest trips in the Conference ... but one of the hottest rivalries. The Blue Jays (3-1, 1-0) and the Mules (4-0, 1-0) only began their series with the inception of the Centennial in 1994. Since then, the two teams have played 24 times (JHU leads 17-7), including once in the Conference semifinals, six times for the Centennial championship and once in the NCAA tournament. Muhlenberg has won the last two contests at Memorial Hall, but Hopkins has had success in the building, winning five of 11 trips.

Ursinus at Gettysburg (Women's Basketball)
Believe it or not ... this game has serious playoff implications this early in the season. In the first weeks of the season, Muhlenberg, Hopkins and McDaniel have stated their cases to be considered among the Conference's elite. Now it could be time for the Bullets (4-1, 2-0) or Bears (3-1, 2-0) to make their statement. Ursinus holds a 20-12 all-time series lead but are 1-6 against Gettysburg at Bream Gym since 1994.
