Welcome!

Welcome to the Centennial Conference's blog. We're an 11-college NCAA Division III athletic conference comprised of eight Pennsylvania schools - Bryn Mawr, Dickinson, Franklin & Marshall, Gettysburg, Haverford, Muhlenberg, Swarthmore, and Ursinus - and three Maryland institutions - Johns Hopkins, McDaniel and Washington College. Our colleges compete for championships in 24 sports.

Founded in 1992, the Centennial Conference provides athletic competition among institutions that share similar academic aspirations and are committed to the importance of the total educational experience for students engaged in sports. We place our emphasis on the participants, rather than the general public and its entertainment needs, and award no athletically related financial aid to any student.

In the 11-year period from 1993 to 2004, the Conference had 114 students receive Academic All-America recognition, including 34 first-team honorees. The Conference has also had 42 students earn NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships and one receive a Rhodes Scholarship. We're proud of our accomplishments.

But why a blog? Believe me ... I've asked myself the same question. I can see our blog becoming a way to communicate with you - Centennial students, athletes, parents, and friends. We can provide the latest information on the Conference here as well as on our website - www.centennial.org - but you can respond to our blog postings.

Tell us how we're doing ... tell us why this weekend's "Five-Star Matchup" (big game) will go in your team's favor ... tell us why football gets too much attention and others don't ... tell us what's new in the pool ... or on the court ... you get the idea!

I admit ... this is an experiment and one that may get started slowly. I'll do my part to keep you informed and I hope to hear from you.
